CHRS’s ultimate goal is to provide the best HR solutions for our clients. In order to remain up-to-date with the ever-changing employment laws and best practices in the HR world, it is critical that we continually learn. The SHRM Conference is a great place for us to find out what is trending for the coming years and bring back innovative ideas and solutions for our clients.
Reflecting on all I learned at #SHRM17 has been an overwhelming yet fulfilling task. The week has brought to light opportunities for personal and professional improvements that can be made as well as areas of expertise where I am an HR rock star. It’s always nice to be reminded that you know what you are doing and are good at it!
I started out my week, mid-flight, carefully planning every minute of time I had, highlighting sessions of interest, ensuring I had selected a variety of topics. My goal was to bring back innovative ideas and improvements for my clients.
As I took the shuttle bus to the convention center on Monday morning, I had my purple #SHRM17 bag in hand, my schedule on my phone, ready to get the day of learning started. I walked into the convention center and my mouth dropped… WOW! So many people, so much to see, so little time!
The first session I attended was titled “The Top 10 Employment Cases of 2017”. What a way to begin the day! Case study is great because it really shows law in practice and why the court makes the decisions it does.
At the end of the first session, I went to the Expo and was amazed at how intense it was. Talk about swag… this conference is the holy grail of swag! I received a free, and much needed, massage, a customized t-shirt, a hot cappuccino, and even a glass of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. It was awesome!
After attending multiple sessions and hearing numerous speakers at the end of the three-day conference, I was content with all I had learned, excited about the opportunities ahead and eager to walk down Bourbon Street.
I met and had dinner with some great HR professionals from around the world and exchanged knowledge and phone numbers. #SHRM17 was a success and I am happy to say that I, along with CHRS, are truly grateful for the opportunity to attend such a great conference in the HR industry.
